What are cookies and what are they used for
A cookie is a text file sent by a website to its user’s terminal, where it is stored and re-transmitted to that website during subsequent visits.
Cookies are separated: based on the subject installing them on the user’s terminal, depending on wether it is the same provider of the website the user is visiting (c.d. “first-party cookies”) or a different website, which installs cookies through the first website (c.d. “third-party cookies); based on the purpose of each cookie: some cookies allow the website which installed them to remember the preferences expressed by the user during browsing, for example, to make a purchase or perform authentication (c.d. “technical cookies”), other cookies allow the website which installed them to monitor the user’s browsing in order to send advertisements or offer services in line with the preferences expressed by the user during web browsing (c.d. “profiling cookies”). Profiling cookies are the only ones to require prior authorisation from the user in order to be used.
Technical first-party cookies and third-party profiling cookies are installed on the website, as described in the table below.
Technical cookies
Technical cookies are used to “transmit a communication on an electronic communication network, or to the extent strictly necessary for the supplier of a company service, of information explicitly required by the subscriber or the user to provide that service”.
Technical cookies can be divided as follows:
– browsing or session cookies, which guarantee normal browsing and fruition of the website (allowing the user to make a purchase or perform authentication to access restricted areas, for example);
– analytics cookies (e.g. Google Analytics), equivalent to technical cookies where used directly by the website provider to gather information on the number of users and how these users visit the website, in aggregated form;
– functionality cookies allow the user to browse according to a series of selected criteria (e.g.: language, products selected for purchase) in order to improve the service provided.
We wish to highlight that the Google Analytics tool used on this website gathers the IP address of visitors to provide an indication of their geographical location. This method is known as IP geolocation. Google Analytics does not share information related to the actual IP addresses of visitors. By using a method known as IP masking, Google Analytics shares information so that only a part of the IP is used for geolocation, not the whole address.
A browser add-on to deactivate Google Analytics may be downloaded from this website https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. The add-on communicates with the Google Analytics JavaScript (ga.js) indicating that information on the visit to the website must not be sent to Google Analytics. The browser add-on to deactivate Google Analytics does not prevent the information from being sent to the website itself.
Technical cookies do not require the authorisation of the data subject.
Profiling cookies
Profiling cookies are used to create profiles related to the user and to send advertising messages in line with the user’s web browsing preferences.
This website uses profiling cookies managed by third parties (the Data Controller does not have any profiling cookies).
These cookies – which are listed below and require the user’s authorisation – are used for advertisement services, targeting for advertising purposes, content customisation, tracking and performance optimisation.
Methods to authorise profiling cookies
When the user visits the website for the first time, he/she may accept all cookies by performing one of the following actions: clicking X or OK on the banner or any element on the page (image or link) outside the banner, or by scrolling the page; furthermore, the user may decide not to perform the actions described on the banner and use it to access the extended policy and deny consent to the installation of cookies by clicking the dedicated link.
When the Website is visited again (provided that the user has already expressed a preference on the use of cookies, as shown above), the user may access the extended policy through the “Cookie policy” key, which appears on every page, and deny consent to cookies as detailed above. In any case, the user may deny consent to cookies through browser settings, as described below.
Information pursuant to art. 13 of Reg. 2016/679/EU
The Data Controller specifies the following with respect to the information gathered by the cookies directly installed by the website:
Finally, with reference to third-party cookies, we would like to remind you that the purpose of those cookies, the logic behind the related processing in addition to management of user preferences relating to cookies, are not determined and/or verified by the Data Controller but by the third party providing them, as supplier and data controller.
The website uses the following third-party cookies:
