{"id":10377,"date":"2022-11-16T08:46:12","date_gmt":"2022-11-16T07:46:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rwlkwwtx9d.wpdns.site\/?post_type=post&#038;p=10377"},"modified":"2026-03-06T14:22:19","modified_gmt":"2026-03-06T13:22:19","slug":"composition-of-manholes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/polieco.com\/en\/composition-of-manholes\/","title":{"rendered":"Composition of Manholes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/polieco.com\/en\/type\/manholes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manholes<\/a> are nothing more than artefacts that are placed at certain levels along <a href=\"https:\/\/polieco.com\/en\/type\/sewerage-distribution-networks\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sewer networks<\/a>\u00a0to allow for cleaning or internal inspection.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Generally, a <strong>complete manhole<\/strong> consists of the following elements:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-marked\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li>moulded base with sockets set up for connection with inlet and output pipes;<\/li>\n<li>extension composed of a pipe;<\/li>\n<li>conical reducer;<\/li>\n<li>load distribution plate.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Let us look in detail at the function of these components.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-marked\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><u>Moulded base<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/polieco.com\/en\/prodotti\/pozzetti-a-base-stampata\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">moulded bases<\/a>\u00a0of manholes can be of innumerable types since, in addition to the different shapes, the number of inlets\/outlets and their diameter must also be considered. The faces, in fact, accommodate the sockets that serve as connections to the inlet and outlet pipes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Each base also has a truncated cone or socket at the top to receive the extension element.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-marked\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><u>Extension or Riser<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The riser consists of a piece of pipe that rises to the surface to allow inspection inside the main pipe. A seal can be placed between the extension and the base or a weld can be made.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In some cases, a ladder can be welded onto the inside wall of the riser to facilitate the descent into the <strong>manhole<\/strong> for cleaning and inspection personnel.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-marked\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><u>Conical Reducer<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The upper part of the manholes can be made with a conical reducer element fitted on the extension element to taper the manhole up to crawl space.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"list-marked\" style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<li><u>Distribution Plate<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">These are plates that <a href=\"https:\/\/polieco.com\/en\/type\/kio-manhole-covers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>manhole covers<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0rest on. It is advisable to include them in cases where there is vehicular traffic.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In fact, these plates are not in direct contact with the conical reducer and therefore transfer the overloads caused by vehicular traffic to the compact backfill soil around the manhole.
